The Commodities Innovation Awards celebrates outstanding achievements in the commodities trading industry in Switzerland. ING Switzerland received the Finance Innovation Award once again in the 2025 edition, recognised for the first-ever syndicated credit facility to incorporate electronic Bills of Lading (eBLs) as secured collateral. This is now a fully operational digital solution, deployed in a live, large-scale transaction and ready for broader adoption.

Innovative Solution

This project has already been tested in a large-scale transaction through the $ 2.8 Billion credit facility granted to Trafigura, demonstratinges the technological maturity and legal security of the model. It paves the way for broader adoption in trade finance.

The initiative accelerates modernization within Trade & Commodity Finance, strengthens the competitiveness of financial institutions adopting digital processes and fosters collaboration among banks. It also contributes to the development of an interoperable and sustainable digital ecosystem. By reducing fraud risk and improving control over Bills of Lading through instant and verifiable registration of cargo rights, ING’s project represents a significant advancement in the digitalization of commodity trade finance.

By digitizing title documents end-to-end, ING streamlines documentation flows and improves control, speed, and certainty across all trade processes. This structure successfully connects the loan syndication market and the digitalization of international trade.
