As part of the ambition to become the best European bank, we are taking a next strategic step in Wholesale Banking to simplify and make it easier for our clients to do business with us. As a reliable banking partner, we aim to create greater value for our clients and all our stakeholders. We will create a more streamlined structure which supports closer relationships with clients, to serve them with more impact and relevance. We’re renaming the unit Corporate and Institutional Banking, to better reflect our business focus.
New client service model
To deploy our expertise and capital with more impact, we’ll introduce a new coverage model built around client needs. The way we serve our corporate clients will change from a sector-focused to a country-focused model, bringing service closer to clients and local markets, while preserving sector expertise. Our financial institutions clients will continue to be served through a globally organised coverage model, recognising the international nature of these clients. These changes are aimed at bringing a sharper focus and more efficient delivery.
Global products
As part of our refocusing, we are bringing specialist expertise together into global product teams, so we can advise clients more effectively, build greater scale and consistency. In Global Transaction Banking we will continue working on our ambition to become the leading transaction banking partner for corporate clients through payments and cash management, trade and working capital solutions. In Global Markets we’re strengthening our position as our clients’ preferred solutions provider, including treasury and risk management. The newly-created Global Finance and Advisory organisation brings together our industry expertise, advisory, financing and distribution capabilities around our clients.
Impact on our people
Due to these changes, effective 1 March 2027, a number of roles will change and we expect around 400 redundancies globally. We will work with the organization and relevant stakeholders to ensure that we do this in the best way possible and help impacted colleagues find their next role inside or outside of ING.
For the intended measures announced today, a pre-tax redundancy provision of around €175 million is expected to be booked in the fourth quarter of 2026. The measures are expected to result in a cost reduction of around €75 million per annum, fully effective from 2028 onwards. We will provide more information on further steps and an update of our financial and commercial targets for our Corporate and Institutional Banking business at our Capital Markets Day in June 2027.
