Portugal

With services currently accounting for over two-thirds of Portugal’s GDP and employing over half of the work force, the Portuguese economy is primarily serviced-based. This has been achieved over the years by moving the economy away from a high dependency on traditional sectors, such as fishery and agriculture, to those with a larger incorporation of technology. Portugal possesses a wealth of natural resources, including forests which cover nearly one-third of the country’s land. Portugal's strategic position makes it a gateway to Europe, the Americas and Portuguese speaking African countries.

ING has a long association with Portugal through Barings, which was Portugal’s principal banker in the 19th century, later acting as more of an advisor on the privatisations in the 1990s. Established in 1998, ING Portugal has one wholesale banking branch in Lisbon. With a strong profile in real estate and infrastructure lending, our principal focus today is corporate banking. We service ING home market clients, including the largest local corporates and financial institutions. Our product offering mainly consists of corporate lending, payments and cash management, and structured lending. In addition, we are a Primary Dealer for the Republic of Portugal.

Our financial experts develop a reliable long-term vision of your specific banking needs enabling us to offer you tailor-made financial products and sound strategic advice. We possess in-depth knowledge of structured finance products and debt market funding, which has already proven successful for many large Portuguese corporates and banks.
