Blockchain has great potential to be a disruptive force in the financial sector. It is already possible to see where it might have an impact, in areas ranging from payments to settlements to smart contracts and e-identity.

Blockchain, a distributed ledger technology (DLT), is based on such different principles that it forces us as a bank and as an industry to rethink the way organisations, processes and markets work. It has the potential to fundamentally change the way we think about ownership, money and risk management.
